Why we love a winter wedding!
Kate and Kate, award-winning Sussex celebrants love a bit of full-on festive fun.
We love a winter wedding! Snuggly venues, log fires, greenery, Christmas trees with baubles, fairy lights and candles all over the place and mulled wine on arrival to warm everyone up!
Keep it cosy
Warmth is a must – think velvet, feathers and Pashminas, plus a spare pair of outdoor shoes for the snowy photoshoot. Flower girls and pageboys can have the look of magical little elves and bridesmaids can look utterly stunning in burgundy or scarlet with a flash of gold if you really want to bling things up. With the candlelight glinting you really can never have enough sparkle so go to town on the sequins and diamante as it really is your moment to shine.
Celebrant-led ceremony
As for the ceremony itself – if you go the celebrant-led route you can really go town with your festive theme. Pop a cracker on every seat to start things off with a bang and, of course, that will also mean a colourful paper hat on every head. We absolutely love a sing-along in our ceremonies and with Christmas around the corner you’re spoilt for choice. A Christmas carol can be so atmospheric and if you want a top-tune to really get y our gets going – Walking in a Winter Wonderland ticks all our boxes for fun and romance.
Wow with your vows
A personal vow really adds a certain something to any ceremony. Straight from the heart they really give your guests a glimpse into what makes your relationship unique. Sticking with our theme, why not stick your vows inside giant husband and wife Christmas cards – with their swirly script and glitzy glitter they really are so kitsch it’s cool!
Give kisses to the Mrs! (or Mr!)
Time to grab the mistletoe for the picture-perfect first kiss and for a festive finale have the confetti at the ready or it’s got to be party poppers – after all, you’re going out with a bang!
Christmas Dinner
For your meal why not put a spin on a traditional theme – who doesn’t love Christmas dinner?!! Get a caterer who can but a twist on the turkey and sprouts – canapés with roast beef and horseradish, spiced squash soup with crunchy croutons, a main course that plays with the rich flavours of chestnuts, stilton and port and really give your guests a meal to remember. And as for dessert – mince pies and Christmas pudding anyone? Don’t mind if I do!! And if you don’t (what’s wrong with you?!) how about salted caramel clementine’s with some rich dark chocolate for that Terry’s-chocolate-orange-in-the-stocking feel.
Speaking of stockings…
If you don’t want your guests to leave empty handed how about personalised baubles as wedding favours. Your names and wedding date on a bauble so that every year, when your friends and relations hang it on their tree, the happy memories of your wonderful day will come flooding back. Ah, we’re feeling warm and fuzzy already!
Happy Christmas one and all and here’s to some wonderful winter weddings!
